Our Mission

MediNotes was founded to serve the geriatric population in our local care communities, where social isolation and limited interaction with younger generations are common. Our platform connects musical talents of all ages with local assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and hospitals to bring joy, connection, and meaningful engagement through live performances.

We are committed to offering this service completely free of charge. By removing financial barriers, we ensure that facilities with limited budgets can still provide enriching experiences to their residents.

Our monthly concerts have brought smiles, sparked memories, and created moments of joy for older adults in our community. Through these performances, we not only support emotional well-being but also raise awareness among younger generations about the daily realities faced by individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. We believe that enhancing the patient experience with live music contributes to a higher quality of life and promotes a greater sense of well-being in our aging population.

Our Impact

MediNotes currently hosts regular monthly performances at our partner care facilities, including Hebrew SeniorLife care system, The Hale House, Susan S. Bailis Assisted Living, The Lutheran Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center Worcester, and CareOne Milbury. We also participate in special event performances at world-class hospitals, most recently at the Tufts Medical Center 2024 Winter Concert.

Our story has been recognized by WCVB Channel 5, Northeastern Global News, and the Hebrew SeniorLife Blog. We are eager to continue expanding our impact and reaching more individuals across the Massachusetts community.

Sang Lam, Founder & Director

As a medical student, I've seen the power of music when incorporated in healthcare. Especially for geriatric patients, music has play an important role in memory retention and increase social wellbeing. I created MediNotes as a platform to connect music talents to local care facilities on a volunteer basis, creating opportunities for others to service their own communities, spreading music to those who miss it the most.

Bonnie Liu, Vice President

As a classically trained pianist and aspiring dentist, I've always believed that music plays an integral part of our lives, providing a mean of self-expression, stress relief, and social connection. Performing in different care settings has shown me how music can collectively heal and brighten the lives of those beyond our family and friends to patients, senior residents, caregivers, and healthcare staff. In a time when social isolation is affecting the health and wellbeing of our senior community, I hope to re-instill people's ability to meaningfully engage with others simply through the act of sharing music!

Kiera Truong, Social Media

I am a second-year student at Northeastern University studying pharmaceutical sciences on a pre-medical track. Growing up, I've always enjoyed playing piano as my own form of therapy to combat my social anxiety. In Spring 2025 I joined MediNotes in hopes to be able to shore this therapeutic gift of music with others to mitigate social isolation and memory loss in seniors. I learned the values of music in seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia and the joy that music brings to them when listening to nostalgic pieces. In my free time, I enjoy playing piano and drums for my indie-pop band ne-on. I also enjoy volunteering with children in the Play-space at Horizons for Homeless Children in Roxbury, MA.

Whether you're a musician, a health care facility, or a music enthusiast, we welcome collaborations and engagements. Reach out to us to explore opportunities for bringing the healing power of music to local communities.
